Saved from Death by Altering the Destiny
Cancelled the death predicted by well-known Astrologers

Destiny Changed by Sai Baba
There are moments in life when God intervenes in ways beyond our understanding—at the right time, in the right manner—to save, protect, and guide us. Even destiny, seemingly unchangeable, can be altered when He wills it. What follows is a true incident from my life—an unforgettable proof of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s boundless compassion.
A Chain of Warnings
In the mid-1990s, while I was working in the UAE, several unusual signs began to unfold.
An astrologer named Mr. Radhakrishnan from Shornur(Kerala) popularly known as Vettilla Jyotsyan was visiting UAE. Known for his accurate predictions, he examined the betel leaf I carried and began narrating details of my life. His mode of predictions is based on Thampoola Jyotsyam where predictions are made on the quality of the leaf and the type of questions asked, etc. Strangely, midway he stopped, avoided my questions, and asked me to return the next day. Even then, his words were vague, and he abruptly concluded by saying: “You have a great future ahead,” without elaborating further and predicted about events only up to mid 30′ s of my career or life.
Later, another astrologer from Thrissur, a Namboodiri, gave a similar experience. He too stopped at a certain point, saying he was “tired and hungry.” He mentioned that I was blessed by a Divine Guru but did not go beyond certain period by stopping abruptly and refrained from speaking further.
All these visits are not done based on my interests, but my colleagues were interested in seeing these Astrologers and was just accompanying them only. I was not that keen on such visits at that point of time.
Meanwhile, my mother had a terrifying dream during one of her trips for Swami’s darshan. She saw a huge serpent coiled around my neck and my son’s, ready to swallow us. She cried out Swami’s name, and immediately Swami appeared, waving His Hand, and the serpent vanished. From that day, my parents began performing Mruthyunjaya Pooja at Sreekanteswara Temple, Trivandrum, praying for our protection. She continued this pooja along with my wife for a very long time praying for my long life. They did not inform me about this dream incident or why they are doing this pooja at any point of time. I have learnt about this only very late from my family members.
These warnings and dreams, though puzzling at the time, were silent threads weaving towards a larger divine drama.
The Golden Period of Darshans
My life in UAE was simple and inward-focused. I spent evenings in prayers, bhajans (though my family jokingly called them “Gusti” with Swami due to my singing), and reading Swami’s books. I was staying alone in my flat as my wife was pursuing her PG at Trivandrum Medical college. I was not very keen on partying and other activities so was spending most of the time reading and stuff like that only.
During this period, Swami blessed me with a series of extraordinary dream darshans, always at Brahma Muhurtha (3:30–4:30 am). These were not ordinary dreams—they carried profound meaning, energy, and guidance that shaped my spiritual journey. All these dreams were so profound that the energy transmitted were huge which lasted for many Days. My body couldn’t simply withstand such powerful energy transmissions and took time to recover.
The Dream (Swapna Darshan)
One morning around 3: 30 to 4 AM, Swami appeared in my dream with all His majestic glory and with His radiant smile asked me lovingly,
“What is your birth star?”
I replied, “Pooram, Swami.” My birth star is Pooram
He came closer, raised His Divine Hand, and symbolically wrote on my forehead as if making some calculations. Then He declared:
“I am changing your Thala Vara (destiny). I am changing your fate.”
He blessed me, and with that mischievous smile, disappeared from my Dream Vision.
I awoke trembling with divine energy, unable to fully comprehend its meaning, but sensing that something life-changing had been decreed by Him, the ALLMIGHTY. I have realised this only later, full meaning and the profoundness of this dawned to me very later, after a major accident.
The Accidents
Soon after, a series of accidents shook my life.
-
One early morning, on the Gharoud Bridge in Dubai (UAE), a van crashed into my car. The driver had dozed off. It was a major accident, yet I walked away unhurt. I realized the crash happened at the exact moment when I had paused chanting the Gayatri Mantra.
-
Months later, I was involved in a six-vehicle pileup. Again, despite the chaos, no one—including a small child in the car ahead—was harmed.
In over a decade in the Gulf, I had never faced such accidents. Suddenly, within months, there were multiple near-death experiences. Destiny was at work, but Swami’s grace stood taller.
The Tragedy
The true meaning of His intervention became clear during a fateful journey to Bangalore, enroute to Parthi.
Me and my parents, (my parents always wanted to leave this world together and used to pray to Swami for this boon), were traveling with my elder son. A tragic accident claimed both their lives that day—exactly as they had foretold.
Later, we discovered a letter written by my seven-year-old son shortly before the journey. It read:
“I am coming to You, Sairam,”
accompanied by a drawing of him holding Swami’s hand in his eternal journey. He also joined my parents and all of them left us on that fateful day.
My wife and infant daughter were not in the car, as the baby was too young for long travel. By Swami’s will, they were spared. And I was the lone survivor. My wife often says, “Swami changed your destiny so you could live—for us, for the child.”
Yes, it is true. Swami Himself had told me: “I am changing your destiny.” He extended my life for a purpose—to care for my family and walk the path He chose.
Reflections
Even today, the pain of that tragedy remains. But amidst the grief stands the unshakable truth as the journey we all have begun is to be ended when he pulls the string.
Swami intervened, He altered the course of destiny, may be for some more purification is needed. Some lives were lovingly gathered back to Him, while others were spared for a higher reason known to HIM only.
This is His mysterious way—allowing some events to unfold, while reshaping others—to protect, to guide, and to uplift. His only mission in this AVATR is to uplift the mankind towards GODHOOD.
Swami not only changed my destiny, but He also gave me life again, with a purpose which is slowly unfolding in my day-to-day life.
With Prayers at His Lotus Feet and Sairam to all
